Jamboree Heights State School
GENERAL
Jamboree Heights State School is located in the Centenary Suburbs of Brisbane. The school has an enrolment of approximately 700 students from Prep to Year 7, who come from about 450 families. The enrolment of the school has remained stable over the past several years and it is anticipated to continue at that rate for the near future. The Prep Year of full-time schooling is for children who turn five by June 30 in that year. An "Early Years Curriculum" has been developed specifically for use in schools for prep classes. The Prep Year builds on your child's learning at home and in other places like kindergarten and child care.
CURRICULUM
The school engages in an updated style of curriculum in all grades that is based around the child's natural inquisitiveness. The main features are:
- General Inquiry-Based Curriculum
- Dynamic Activity-Based "Early Years Curriculum" with a strong literacy and numeracy focus
- Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Curriculum Integration
- Sustainable Environment focus
The specific curriculum in the Prep Year is designed to provide the foundation that children need for success in later schooling. The learning experiences in the Prep Year will help children to:
- Take on responsibilities
- Become more independent
- Respect other people
- Cooperate with others
- Make sensible choices about their health and safety
- Develop their physical skills
- Develop their oral language
- Develop their understanding of literacy and numeracy
- Learn how to be thinkers and problem solvers
- Use their imagination and creativity
- Learn about their environment
Activities for children in Prep will include the following:
- Designing and making things
- Singing, dancing and painting
- Climbing, balancing, jumping
- Investigating interests
- Making choices
- Taking part in everyday experiences like gardening, cooking and tidying up
- Learning about size, mass and measurement as they construct things indoors and outdoors
- Planning with their teachers about things they might do, and carrying them out
- Planning and sharing in make-believe play
The school also engages in the You Can Do It program which teaches children to use the 5 Keys To Success in their everyday school and home life, leading to improved independence and positive behaviour. FACILITIES
The school has classrooms of single and double teaching space design, several demountable buildings, a double unit Prep, 400 seat multi-purpose hall with stage, kitchen and disabled access, Tuckshop, Library with advanced Media Centre, specially designed Outside School Hours Care building and an Administration Block (including a unit for the Visually Impaired students).
Our sporting facilities include a heated Swimming Pool, Cricket practice nets, 2 Multi Purpose Courts, two covered games areas, large sporting oval, "astro turfed" mini games field, and three adventure playground areas.
We are also proud to have committed and dedicated teachers and admin staff, and the added bonus of having the majority of them trained to use the Interactive Touch Screen Whiteboards that we have in every year level.
