CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS!
Here is the Principal's Report on the JHSS Art Show held on the 22nd of October:

Congratulations to the staff, students and parents on the success of our Arts Expo last night. The gallery of art works by PREP to Yr 12 students from the five centenary schools provided an amazing exhibition in a great range of mediums. Our Expo was officially opened by Local Artist, Janelle Green, who donated one of her works to the school. Invited guests included Principals/Representatives of CLASS and Good News schools, Lee Fullarton, Primary Arts Network Ipswich Coordinator, Artist in Residence Narelle Oliver and many of our very generous sponsors.

During our week of the CLASS Arts Festival students will have many opportunities to participate in art activities and our community and parents can enjoy a range of performances and shows this week culminating in the Gala Concert on Saturday at CSHS.

During the evening, more than three hundred parents and visitors as well as most of our students enjoyed a tour of the many “installation art pieces” that are now permanent works of art in our outdoor environment.

Our school was awash with colour and light and a great tribute to the work of students, staff and parents. The children’s joy at seeing their works go up on display has resulted in a new sense of achievement and pride in their school. We have a firm belief that the creative process in art programs improves students’ abilities in literacy, problem solving and thinking skills.

We were able to pay tribute to our Arts Coordinator, Amanda Hawkswell who has worked tirelessly for the past year in planning with a very large team of workers and enthusiastic staff. Special mention was made to the work behind the scenes, by our Facilities Officer, Derek Robinson, our office staff and cleaners.

Amanda has brought her favourite quote to life…. “Art changes people …………People change the world”! She has brought this philosophy into our world here at Jamboree …….and what a change!

Congratulations to the people – every one of you who have had a part in this project.

Here is the what the P & C President had to say about our Art Show:

WOW! What a talented group of students we have living within the cluster group of schools of the Centenary Suburbs. For those of you that missed attending the Arts Expo on Wednesday 22 October you really did miss an amazing showcase of artwork from our students. The pieces on display in the school hall were truly inspiring. But the visual pleasure did not stop there. You were then given the option of being taken on a guided tour by our Year 7 leaders to view the installation pieces which are a culmination of many months of hard work. From the Prep and Year 1 silhouettes to the bollards and resin tiles of Year 7 the colour and design cannot be given justice with words. We now truly have a school to be proud of and are providing the students with an inspirational environment in which they can grow and learn.

On Saturday 24 October we were treated to performances by the many musical ensembles and choirs within our cluster group of schools at Centenary High School. The entire week of entertainment finished with a fantastic Gala Concert at the high school on Saturday night. Again the students showed off their talents - this time musically. Jamboree Heights performances opened the concert and the entire night was finished with a stunning performance from Centenary High School.

Of course none of this would have been possible without the tireless input of our dedicated teachers and a band of parent helpers. This group was led by Amanda Hawkswell - our very own artist in residence. Amanda has spent many hours working on this project and gone over and above the call to achieve what can only be described as an amazing result. We also thank Amanda's family for their patience and tolerance of this demanding task.

Jamboree Heights State School students should be proud and hold your heads high. You have left a beautiful legacy to the school for many students to enjoy over the coming years.

Congratulations to all involved for a truly successful week!
