JHSS Fete 2009

On Saturday the 1st of August, from 11 am until 7 pm JHSS held a great Circus-Themed Fete. With some good feedback on the last Fete, we took a fresh look at the whole Fete idea, and came up with, what we thought would be, a cracker of an idea. We looked at the Fete from the kids point of view, because although it does raise desperately needed funds, it is first and foremost a great day out for the students of the school and local community.

So we organised the following fun and attractions, and now we really need your feedback on how it all went! So please let us know what you thought of our ideas, and if you've got any suggestions for, or are interested in helping at, our next Fete.

Our last Fete was a hugely successful Multiculturally-Themed Fete in 2007 (you can still check it out online if you missed it) and you might wonder why some schools have their Fete every year and we don't. The simple answer is we unfortunately don't have the volunteers to organise such a huge event every year. So if you are interested in a lot of fun and the satisfaction of seeing 700+ students have the time of their lives, then please contact us to lend a hand for 2011!

	Our big feature entertainer was Joel Turner! Joel Turner is an amazing beatboxer, singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and record producer and is probably best known for his hit song "These Kids". As a beatboxer he is recognised for his raw power, deep bass, and trademark sounds such as his "third voice", cowbell, teeth beats and bass guitar. He was the winner at the World Beatboxing Championships in 2005 and retained the title until 2009. Joel first appeared at the auditions for the 2003 season of Australian Idol where he drew attention for his beatbox skills. Although a favourite he was deemed unsuitable for the competition, however, was voted "Most Popular of the Unforgettables" and performed at the 2003 Idol Grand Final at the Sydney Opera House. Joel has released 2 albums and been nominated for a number of ARIA and APRA awards. He has also toured many public schools around Australia in support of a program aimed at imparting teenagers with values such as non-violence and accountability. Joel is currently recording his new album and his performance at the JHSS fete was not to be missed.
