About The Sports Committee

GENERAL
The Sports Committee are an enthusiastic group of parents and teachers who organise events to fundraise to provide maintenance for sporting equipment, to buy new sporting equipment and to help with general running costs of the school sports program.

Our AGM is held at the school in April and we meet for General meetings approximately four or five times a year. These meetings are informal and we meet at one of the committee member’s residences to discuss the upcoming events on the sporting calendar.

FUNDRAISING
The sporting calendar is set by the QLD Primary Schools Sports Association and the School District Regions. JHSS is in the District of West Akuna and the Zone of Metropolitan West (Met West). When we have the dates that these Associations allocate, our school’s Sports Co-ordinator, Chris Foreman can plan for our own Interschool events like the Cross Country, Junior and Senior Athletics and Swimming Carnivals. These carnivals are organised by Mr. Foreman and the teachers of our school, and are run by them and parent volunteers. Our part as a sub committee is to provide food and drinks stalls at these carnivals for the convenience of parents and students, and to raise funds to boost the small sporting budget of the school.

The school also has a Swim-athon every year and a Fun Run every second year to raise the needed money. The Sports committee’s provides additional assistance with organising the collection and counting of money from these events.

The most recent projects our raised funds from 2007-2008 have enabled are:

• The new sandpit for the Long Jump Pit and Beach Volleyball Courts
• The new run up for the Long Jump Pit
• New flop mats for the High Jump
• Contribution towards the QLD Government "30 Minutes A Day - Get Active" in-school program

In 2009, we have planned to allocate the funds raised towards the following projects:

• A second run up for the Long Jump Pit
• Fitness stations at the norther and southern ends of the Oval

If you have any suggestions for fundraisers or know of any sporting equipment or projects that need our attention, please let us know.

We are a small but dedicated group of parents who are working to not only better our own children's school, and sporting experiences, but yours as well. So why not join us for a meeting, or lend a hand at one of our famous sausage sizzles! Its great fun and not only will your kids thank you, but ours will as well.
